Have you ever sat down and asked yourself what really matters to you? Have you ever thought about what type of person you want to be and how you would like to conduct yourself?
Most of us realize that there is a difference between where we would like to be and where we are, most of know that there are little inconsistencies in our days… they exist between how we act and how we want to act, and most of us look on our days with the knowledge that we could have done better…. yet we never change our standards and expect more of ourselves tomorrow. In fact, today’s failures often just make it all the easier to not try tomorrow.
Who doesn’t wish that they were: more kind, happier, more disciplined, more thoughtful, more productive, or more healthy?
The real task at hand is to stop feeling guilty, stop feeling helpless, and to start take control and change our standards of living.
So stop playing the victim, raise your standards, and be the hero of your own life.
Put the gun to your own head…
The first step to becoming that healthy person that you desire to be is to raise your standards, expect more of yourself and just become that healthy person one day at a time.
If you allow yourself to skip the gym one day then you’ll skip it everyday.
If you allow yourself to cheat on your spouse one time then you will cheat every time.
If you allow yourself to neglect your goals today then you will surely neglect them tomorrow.
If you want to change for real, then put the gun to your head and raise your standards. Imagine that the person you want to be is standing before you with a gun pointed right into your forehead, and they tell you “If you do this today you kill the person you want to become”.
You can live your entire life as an honest and loyal person, but if you compromise your standards one single time and tell a lie (especially if you get caught) then you will forever be remembered as a liar.Your intentions don’t matter…it doesn’t matter that you want to be kinder or more honest, it doesn’t matter that you want to lose weight or get healthy…all that matter is WHAT YOU DO.

Raise your standards today and make each decision with the thought of a gun pointed in your face. Choose the right decision and live one more day as the person that you desire to be…but neglect making the right choice just once and you can kill all of your progress.
I challenge you to find your standards and draw a line in the sand today…
Decide what type of person you want to be and start holding yourself accountable to become that person. Draw a line in the proverbial sand and refuse to cross it. You will only become the person that you truly want to be if you can become that person today and continue to be that person each day.
Our actions each day, the way we carry ourselves, and the personal standards that we define and maintain for ourselves are the measures that will eventually determine what type of person we are and what type of person we will be remembered as.
I promise you though, if you allow yourself to falter one time, then you will allow yourself to falter every time, and that’s why it is so important to commit to the standards of living that you expect of yourself.
Just expect more of yourself, you don’t have to expect perfection, but you should at least expect effort.
I invite you to figure out what matters to you…really think about what type of person you would like to be and hold yourself accountable…don’t just say it would be nice to change, but really expect yourself to change. Put the gun to your head and do it today, live up to your personal standards.
I can pretty much guarantee that you are capable of doing much more than you currently think you can, and you can reach much higher standards than what you currently expect of yourself. Go ahead, give it a shot.
