When things just fall into place

99% of the time when you are working towards a goal it’s a grind. Day in and day out you wake up to the same struggle; you are forced to make the same sacrifices over and over again, you look at yourself in the mirror each day and face the somber reality that failure IS an option and if you don’t work hard enough it may be what happens. Working towards your dreams can be soul-wrenching, difficult, and at times it may look like everything in the universe is poised against you. The high probability of low probability events states that there are an infinite number of low probability events that could happen at each moment. It may not be likely that you will go out today and turn the key in your car ignition for your car not to start…but with all the car accidents, health problems, deaths, business calamities, inter-personal catastrophes, fights, and other troubles in the world… there is a VERY good chance that something bad is going to happen to you everyday. Not everything that happens will be bad though… although we may have small trials that we face every single day there are also small victories, and then every once and while something GREAT will happen.   Sometimes great things that you didn’t plan for happen  Maybe you get a great job offer, you make a huge sale, you inherit some money, you make a great investment, or you meet the love of your life…and suddenly everything just falls into place for a while. When good things happen to us it tunes our minds... read more

20 of Buddha’s best quotes about life

1. Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment 2. Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth. 3. Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared. 4. To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one’s family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one’s own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him. Your mind is your greatest weapon. Invest in your mind each day and reap the rewards that follow. Double tap if you agree! A photo posted by @makeyourbestself on Sep 21, 2015 at 4:27pm PDT 5. The mind is everything. What you think you become. 6. Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned. 7. There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting. 8. Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without. 9. No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path. 10. It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. What you want means nothing without the action that follows

What does it mean when you desire change but never get around to making it happen? What really changes when you tell yourself you want things to be different but you fail to act? On what day does your new journey begin when you keep telling yourself you will get started tomorrow? If there is one secret to doing anything in this world, then it is this: change comes only through action. Change, growth, success: these things are ultimately not created through luck, dreaming, or wishing- they are created through focused action. So I know you are probably thinking to yourself, “Thanks for the newsflash captain obvious.”, but I want you to ask yourself a question and then try to answer it honestly. First, ask yourself this, “What does my perfect life look like, what am I doing, what do I look like, and what kind of person would I be if I could have, do, or be anyone that I wanted to be?” Next, ask yourself, “Is the life that I am living right now taking me closer to this person/place/life?” I am willing to bet that for about 95% of the people reading this article the overwhelming response to this second question (if you are deeply honest with yourself) is no. The worst part? These things about our current life that we dislike or we know need to change…we are totally aware that they need to change but we still don’t act to change them. We know that there are factors that are within our control that we can influence to make life better for ourselves and... read more

You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth!

What makes you who you are? Is it the way you were raised, the experiences you had, what some bully said about you on the playground 20 years ago? The truth is, most of us have our ideas about who were are yet these ideas weren’t created by us, they weren’t designed by us, and we usually adopted these ideas without question. Unless you have spent years of your life in counseling or therapy or unless you have gone on a creative journey of self discovery, chances are your beliefs are made up of nothing but the same ideas that you have been repeating about yourself for years.   We all like to think there is that little bit of “me” in there somewhere… Most of us can watch an old home movie, or look at a photograph of ourselves as children and see that little bit of ourselves that is still there today. Do we still have the same traits we did as children because that is who we are, or is it because we feel that those characteristics make up who we are? I always believed that I wasn’t outgoing and I didn’t like going out into large groups of people. When I was growing up that was my mother’s belief, I adopted it, and for 24 years it was my belief too. I always felt that I liked people, but I couldn’t stand being in large groups. Then I had some major changes in my life, and two things occurred… First, I decided to start going out a few nights a week to meet new women,... read more

There will be haters: have no fear, it is all part of the process

As many of you may already know, I am no stranger to working hard for a long time at something. One thing I have learned going through different avenues in life is that people are going to hate no matter what you do… It is nothing to be afraid of, these haters can’t hurt you, they can’t make you less successful, and they have zero impact on your results unless you listen to what they are saying about you.   An example about haters… When I moved to Atlanta, GA about 5 years ago to pursue my dream of training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu full time, a lot of people thought I was crazy. I was just an untalented 21 year old kid from the midwest; I wasn’t good at my sport, and I didn’t have any special talents or abilities that made me excel, but what I did have was dedication and a dream. When I made the decision to leave Indiana some people supported me and my dream, some people supported me to my face and talked about me behind my back, and then others just totally switched from friends to my most active critics. It was crazy, people who I thought were my friends had nothing but shit to say about me when I left. For the first two years training I got destroyed multiple times a day by everybody at my new gym. Eventually I was able to earn some respect from my new training partners and form a lot of new friends who probably thought I was crazy for thinking I could be great. Fast forward... read more

Discovery moments: find your very own moment of self discovery

What are you made of? For almost every morning for the last year and half, I have started out my morning the same way, with some sort inspirational videos playing into my headset from youtube, and I can always tell a difference on the mornings I stick with my habit vs. the mornings that I don’t. While I make my smoothie, brew some coffee, or even put my laundry in the wash, I like to listen to the words of some of my heros, some awesome motivators, and just some awesome people with awesome stories; nothing gets me started like hearing about how my heros overcame hard times just like the ones that I am going through right now. There is one set of words in particular that sticks out in my mind (if you know who said it please leave a comment below, because I would love to know whose words I am quoting here), where the speaker says “This is a discovery moment- not where you realize how hard life is, but when you realize how strongly you have been created.” The more stories I listen to, the more life experiences that I go through each day, I think it is really true that every successful person has some moment of great trial and tribulation, and they look through the pain, fear, suffering, and difficulty, and they just keep on pushing through it all; right after that moment of trial comes that epic moment of greatness. These types of moments can give us such personal power; when we realize that no matter how bad life gets, we... read more
