Some people actually can not lose weight, are you one of them?

Today I am going to surprise many of you with an admission…I believe that some people actually can’t lose weight. We have all heard one of our friends or family members tell us that they just can’t lose weight, but the real reason is usually far from what most of us expect and it is almost certainly not the reason they are claiming it is. While it may be true that they can’t do it, the reason almost always lies in their own minds, not buried somewhere deep within their genetic code. When someone tells us they can’t lose weight, they are telling the truth. They will NEVER lose weight through natural and sustainable means as long as their mind is filled with this idea that they can’t lose weight. America’s obesity epidemic is out of control. About 36% (1 in 3) Americans are considered obese, while around 68% (2 out of 3) are considered to be overweight. With numbers like these, either one of two things is happening: there is a huge international conspiracy underway where the nations of the world are injecting our food with chemicals that make it impossible for us to lose weight, or people are just not eating healthy diets and they aren’t being active like they used to years ago. While obesity rates soar higher throughout the country, there is an underground current of health and fitness professionals that are leading the way for some of us to get fit and lose weight. Shows like The Doctors make it possible for people to be exposed to new health trends, be encouraged to get...
10 reasons you should push your comfort zone to grow as a person.

10 reasons you should push your comfort zone to grow as a person.

There are many reasons that you should push through your comfort zone, yet so many of us cruise by on auto-pilot while we allow our desire for comfort and safety to override our burning passion for more in life.  Most of us would rather sleep soundly in our bed, than push through the discomfort of going for a run, or getting up early to work on our manuscript, but the ability to push into the discomfort of life is a key trait in determining the amount of success and happiness we will experience in life.   Personal growth almost always follows all periods of adversity and discomfort, and as we earn to grapple with the inner doubts and demons that are holding us back, we will begin to awaken ourselves from -autopilot and take the wheel.  If you want to be better each day, grow as a person, and change the world, it all starts within: it starts with developing the courage to push through your comfort zone, because almost certainly, what you want is on the other side of your boundaries.   You can form new beliefs.   Many times the boundaries of our comfort zone are simply the limiting beliefs of what we think we are capable of achieving.  If we believe the only way to pay the bills is to work for someone and get a steady paycheck, it will be challenging to start a business and rely on our work to directly determine how much money we will make.  Once you push through your discomfort and prove yourself wrong, you shatter powerful limiting beliefs that...
How two words can save a relationship: the power of saying thank you.

How two words can save a relationship: the power of saying thank you.

Committing to saying two words at every chance can literally save your relationship.  Of course its going to take hard work, love, and patience too, but its true that two little words can be the bridge back to a relationship you enjoy.  Relationships, like life, move in cycles: there are cycles of pain and growth, times of joy and sorrow, times of appreciation, and times of resentment.  When things get rough, its going to take at least one person willing to make amends and end the cycle.   The one person standing silent, can be much more striking than the masses of talking heads, be the one who humbles themselves, if you love this person, tell them thank you for being mine, thank you for choosing me, thank you for all you have and still do for me each day.  Those two words can save a relationship in troubled water, just say “thank you”.   In relationships we often grow accustomed to the way things are, and the qualities that used to draw us closer, eventually become unappreciated and resentment can build up.  Nothing is worse than taking your time to do something nice for someone, when they don’t even notice what you have done.  Just the words “thank you” can make you happier, feel more appreciated, and more fulfilled.   The words thank you can be powerful, they can be revolutionary, they can completely change the direction of a moment.     You should say thank you because…   You love this person, they try to please you, they chose you out of an entire world and have...
Mediterranean Chicken Skewers with Sun-Dried Tomato, Artichoke and Olive Tapenade

Mediterranean Chicken Skewers with Sun-Dried Tomato, Artichoke and Olive Tapenade

Today’s recipe is a party in the mouth. There are so many great flavors coming together for a dish that can stand alone. Before I get to this delicious recipe, I’d like to briefly discuss carbs as they are the target of many health and diet debates lately. I have personally followed diets both high in simple carbs and very low in simple carbs; white rice, bread, even low in whole grains. Until now, where I practice a very high, mostly plant based diet and don’t think twice about adding a little bread, pizza or pasta in moderation, hence the pita in today’s recipe. My message is to find your balance. I can’t stress the word “balance” enough here. Anyone who is active can and should have carbs of some sort in their diet. That includes, dare I say, even the processed kind. You have to look at your meals as a whole and make sure you are getting a variety of nutrient dense foods. A slice of bread or a cup of pasta isn’t going to cancel that out. Simple carbs are actually great quick fuel for your body. The problem lies in overdoing them. If you are going to go back for seconds of something, have some more protein or veggies. Whatever you do, don’t live your life thinking, “I can’t have that”, or you will end up overeating that very food later and even get anxiety when in social situations where these foods are in abundance. Carbs or whatever foods you are avoiding are always going to be tempting and the key is to not put...
