What is the value of a life?

What is the value of a life?

Many people are on this planet right now; many people are breathing and their hearts are beating, but are they really alive?  How many people out of 7 billion on the planet are really alive right now?  If you have a heartbeat you might be clinically alive, but does it really mean you are living?  Today, I propose that life is not something that happens on accident, but instead, it is something you choose every moment.   What are you choosing right now for your life?  That’s the question that determines if you are really awake or if you are just a body on the planet; if you can answer the question with a quick and clear answer then you have a purpose, it may not be your highest potential, but it is something.   I don’t mean to imply that there is a one size fits all approach to life: there are many different ways to live a meaningful life.  Life with a purpose does have one clear requirement- that you have a purpose!  Living a life with no purpose, no direction, no meaning is a sad way to live.  If you don’t have a purpose, then why are you here, why are you walking around aimlessly with an entire planet of beauty and promise all around you.   No one chooses to be born, but we do choose to live.  Living in a path plotted by others, living inside your comfort zone, closing off your mind and emotions, and drudging through life like the walking dead is NOT a life; you might have a heartbeat, you might...
The power of positive thinking- The Helpful Habit Series

The power of positive thinking- The Helpful Habit Series

Imagine if your mind and thoughts encouraged you throughout your entire life; instead of hearing a voice of doubt when you thought of a new idea, you heard a voice telling you to go for it, and that you can do it.  Though our minds will often fall into a habit of negativity, if we commit to the process, we can retrain our minds and create a habit of positivity and encouragement to take hold within our own minds.   By learning many different techniques and making it a habit to remove, replace, or ignore our negative thoughts, we can create an internal environment that allows us to accomplish whatever we desire.   In a negative inner world, we might say “I can’t lose weight.”, and so our inner world becomes our outer reality.  When we don’t believe it is possible, we won’t try, and it will never happen.  In a positive inner world, we might say “I can lose weight.”, it might be hard, but I can do it.  In our inner world we can lose the weight, and so, our inner world will create an outer reality that will reflect that belief.   No matter what you do, want to do, have done: they are all shaped by the inner thoughts and beliefs that you hold.  If you fall victim to a cycle of disbelief, fear, doubt, and other negative emotions,  your outer world will reflect your inner belief.  No matter how hard you try, no matter how much you want things to change, your outer world will never change until your inner world changes.   I...
Green smoothies, fantastic or fad?

Green smoothies, fantastic or fad?

Green smoothies are all the rage right now.  There are green smoothie diet plans, articles and segments galore, and even many popular celebrities are now endorsing green smoothies as a way to lose weight, feel better, and get healthier.  So what is the truth behind these claims, and are green smoothies just a fad, or is it a trend that is here to stay?   Green smoothies are reported to increase energy levels, help people lose weight, decrease inflammation, and host of other beneficial effects are reported with green smoothie drinks.  There is significant research suggesting that 1-2 servings of leafy green vegetables per day can boost a person’s health.  Leafy greens: are loaded with B vitamins and vitamin K and C, high in fiber, help lower cholesterol, and are high in calcium.  With all the benefits of leafy greens its no question that we should aim for at least 1-2 servings daily, but what about green smoothies?  Green smoothies can be good or bad, and like many things, they can have some really good effects when they are used correctly.   If your green smoothie consists of mostly fruit with a few leaves of kale thrown in, just to give it a green color, chances are you will be missing out on many of the potential benefits of a good green smoothie.  Of course, drinking blended fresh fruit is better than drinking a coca-cola, but drinking down a ton of fruit can still raise your blood sugar levels, especially if you use some of the sweeter fruits like: peaches, oranges, mango, or kiwi.   Even worse, some people...

Taking Small Steps

Taking Small Steps

Hi Everyone! I hope your week is going great. For my first post I want to talk to you about making small changes towards your goals. The weekend is approaching and will be a great time to start taking steps to set your plans into motion. After all, the weekend is generally when most of us have our free time and can do the things we want to do. But do you really? Do you do something to bring you closer to your dreams and goals?  If you answered no, why not let this weekend be different?  The warmer weather has begun and the days are getting longer: that means more time to put your goals into action. So let’s start small. This can be applied to eating habits, physical fitness, or making changes to reach other goals in your life. It is important to start with small changes, they are what lead to the big pay off, the juice is in the squeeze. The small steps you take everyday are so crucial to the end result and should not be looked at as obstacles you have to overcome to get to the big prize. Let’s say you want to lose weight, this is a goal for so many people. Instead of focusing on the number on the scale reading your dream weight, focus on increasing your daily activity. Focus on tracking your steps by downloading a step tracking app on your phone and taking walks outside during your lunch break or after dinner before the sun sets. Eventually, something as simple as walking more will be a...
